ISO 50001 feedback – AFNOR
In October 2014, AFNOR published a study based on feedback of organizations engaged in an ISO 50001 approach. The goal of this study is to understand the motivations of certified organizations and to share good practices and difficulties encountered by stakeholders. Here are the main findings and TEEO comments.
Saving energy and improving energy efficiency
– 25%: max savings on energy costs (10% on average)
– 35%: max profit on energy performance (11% on average)
– 1-4 years: Average Return on Investment Time on actions taken for 80% of respondents

TEEO : As indicated in the study of AFNOR, Energy Manager function is developing, particularly in the industrial sector. However, many organizations do not necessarily have the internal resources to effectively facilitate their EMS lastingly. The « Internal Audit » module helps to review of all the chapters of the standard, to check the conformity of the EMS with the requirements of ISO 50001, and to centralize the results and summaries of these audits.
Duration of obtaining ISO 50001 certification
Almost all of the responding organizations have achieved certification of their EMS in less than a year. 26% of them needed a period of less than 6 months.
