ISO 50001 feedback – AFNOR
In October 2014, AFNOR published a study based on feedback of organizations engaged in an ISO 50001 approach. The goal of this study is to understand the motivations of certified organizations and to share good practices and difficulties encountered by stakeholders. Here are the main findings and TEEO comments.
Saving energy and improving energy efficiency
– 25%: max savings on energy costs (10% on average)
– 35%: max profit on energy performance (11% on average)
– 1-4 years: Average Return on Investment Time on actions taken for 80% of respondents
TEEO: Our support offer provides the tools necessary for the measurement, evaluation and continuous improvement for energy use and meets a reduction target of 15 to 20% of the energy bill in a simple and sustainable way. The detection of waste, loss and misuse provides rapid and significant profits to finance ISO 50001 approach and maximize the energy efficiency of facilities.

|Head of maintenance
|Other (Purchasing Manager, Sustainability…)
TEEO : As indicated in the study of AFNOR, Energy Manager function is developing, particularly in the industrial sector. However, many organizations do not necessarily have the internal resources to effectively facilitate their EMS lastingly. Our SMART SIMETM solution simplifies the deployment and coordination of the EMS to optimize company’s internal resources. In addition, a dedicated Energy Manager interlocutor supports the internal Energy Manager in the implementation and continuous improvement of the EMS.
Motivations of the EMS approach
« The main motivation expressed by the organizations is to obtain AFAQ ISO 50001, that is to say the recognition by a third party of an energy management in line with the international standard ISO 50001 »
TEEO : Our solution integrates all the steps of ISO 50001, from the collection of information to support during EMS presentation during the certification audit. Our SMART SIMETM software, recognized by AFNOR, has been specifically developed to meet the requirements of ISO 50001 and enhance value required to manage energy effectively and quickly and easily obtain certification. The « Internal Audit » module helps to review of all the chapters of the standard, to check the conformity of the EMS with the requirements of ISO 50001, and to centralize the results and summaries of these audits.
Duration of obtaining ISO 50001 certification
Almost all of the responding organizations have achieved certification of their EMS in less than a year. 26% of them needed a period of less than 6 months.
TEEO : The average duration of companies we support is 6 months. The innovation of our approach lies in the pool of skills that are mostly compartmentalized, which are necessary for the implementation of an EMS. This innovation allows us to offer a turnkey solution to manage energy which avoids the establishment of a complex mode and much slower to develop. If it is easier to obtain certification for an organization which has already a certified management system, implementation simplicity of our packaged solution enables all types of organizations (industry, tertiary , authorities) of all sizes to be certified. We assist organizations in diverse sectors (health, retail, industry, tertiary, SMEs … ) some of which have successfully obtained certification without an initial management system.
